St. Pete Rip Candy™ | 1/4 oz. Weighted Squid Casting Rig

The St. Pete Rip Candy™ is a 1/4 oz. weighted squid casting rig handmade on Cape Cod by Cape Cod fishermen. It is designed for casting to striped bass and bluefish in rips, current seams, inlets, channels, and other areas where moving water concentrates bait.

The 4″ squid skirt contains a 1/4 oz. internal lead weight, providing added casting weight while maintaining a natural squid profile. The finished rig is approximately 14″ long and is built for saltwater anglers who want a durable squid presentation that can be cast into productive current.

Perfect for Cape Cod Rips

The St. Pete Rip Candy™ is especially effective when fishing the rips off Monomoy, the Cape Cod Canal, and other areas where strong currents move baitfish and squid. These conditions can create ideal feeding opportunities for striped bass and bluefish. When fish feed near the surface, cast the Rip Candy™ into or across the current and work it through areas where the current sweeps bait along.

The weighted squid design also makes the Rip Candy™ useful around current seams, inlets, channels, and other productive saltwater structure. It is a versatile casting rig for anglers looking to imitate squid while covering water from shore or a boat.

Built for Saltwater Predators

The Rip Candy™ is constructed with 175 lb. A.F.W. 49-strand, 7×7 stainless-steel brown leader, two Rosco swivels, and a Mustad O’Shaughnessy 2X Extra Strong 7/0 hook.

The heavy-duty stainless-steel leader provides excellent bite and abrasion resistance when bluefish mix with striped bass. The strong terminal components handle the demanding conditions commonly found around Cape Cod’s rips and strong tidal currents.

Cast across or up-current and let the St. Pete Rip Candy™ work through the rip. The current gives the squid skirt natural movement while the internal weight helps keep the lure in the strike zone.
