St. Pete Striper Jigs
3 oz. St. Pete Striper Jigs are made on Cape Cod from a proprietary mold forming the jig head into a teardrop shape. Other wireline jigs are round. When jigged properly the unique teardrop design forces the jig down into the sandy bottom. This creates an explosion of sand that drives the Striped Bass and Bluefish crazy.
Striped Bass hunt using sight, sound, smell, and vibrations. It’s said that the stripes down the side of a Striped Bass aren’t just for good looks. Rather they are actually receptors that can sense vibrations helping them to hunt. So when you use one of our Salt Shaker jigs, you’re letting the fish use three of its four hunting mechanisms; sight, sound, and vibration. When the jig is driven into the sand, the sand explodes. This creates something that looks like Sand Eels, crabs, lobster, or other bait bounding out from the sand. The Striper strikes because it’s looking for a quick meal.
How to set up and use
These jigs work best in areas with sandy bottoms since you’re jigging as you’re moving. You’ll want to let out 300′ of at least a 50 lb. test steel line. Troll at 2 to 3 knots. This way you’re sure to get the jig to the bottom. We set up our conventional reel with 300′ of 50 lb. test steel line. Then there is at least 50 to 100′ of a 200 lbs. braided line as a backer material since you need room for the bigger fish to run.
Attach the jig directly to the wireline by simply running the wire through the eye of the jig and twisting the steel line around itself.
If you’re in an area heavy with lobster traps or other bottom debris, you can tie the jig to the wireline using a short piece of 80 lb. mono. That way, if you snag a trap or a line, you won’t have to back the boat to the trap. You can simply break off the line and then attach a new jig head.
Where to use
Use anywhere you find a sandy bottom in depths up to 30 – 35′. Adjust your trolling speed to reach the bottom. These jigs are perfect for Cape Cod Bay, Buzzards Bay, Nantucket Sound, and around Nantucket because Cape Cod is like a big sandbox. They work great on the south side of Cape Cod in areas like Monomoy or off of Chatham.
St. Pete Jigs are available in four colors. Black/Red, Black/Chartreuse, Black/Purple, and Black/Root Beer. Colors may vary slightly from the image and on each order since these are all handmade in small batches.

Mike –
As a mate on a charter boat for over 6 years I have to say, these are hands down the best jig on the market. When it comes to both durability and action, nothing else compares to these.
