Good Planning Makes for Safe Boating
Heading out on the water? Stay ahead of the game by checking your local marine forecast. Weather conditions can shift swiftly, especially during summer, with thunderstorms and fog creeping in unexpectedly. Be prepared for whatever Mother Nature throws your way!
If you’re planning to join us aboard St. Pete, it’s wise to review local forecasts before booking your trip. Avoid days with heavy winds and high surf; aim for calm, sunny conditions with seas of 1 – 2′ or less. While our vessel handles 2 – 3′ seas adeptly, smoother waters ensure a more enjoyable experience. Plus, with our onboard radar, fog won’t dampen your journey.
Check out our curated list of three or four different locations below. Even if conditions seem rough in one area, you might find calmer seas elsewhere. It all boils down to wind speed and direction. Book your trip wisely and make the most of your time on the water!
Nantucket Sound
Nantucket sound is typically calmer than most of the other locations because it’s more protected. We can fish for Black Sea Bass, Scup (Porgies), Fluke, and Bluefish in these areas. Check the Marine Forecast for Nantucket Sound
Handkerchief Shoals
Even though this is technically still in Nantucket Sound it’s further offshore and to the west of Monomoy. We can fish the rips here for Striped Bass, Fluke, Bluefish, and Black Sea Bass. Check the Marine Forecast for Handkerchief Shoals
Monomoy Rips
There are several shoals in this area and a great number of tidal rips. The sea depths vary from over 100′ deep up to only about 10′ in depth. This is a great area for some really large Bluefish and Stripers. Check the Marine Forecast for Monomoy
Off of Chatham
This is our favorite spot to vertical jig for Striped Bass but you can still hook up on several other fish species including Mackerel, Cod, Haddock, and Bluefish. This is about a 25-mile run so we will only commit when we’re pretty certain that there are fish in the area. Check the Marine Forecast for Chatham.
These aren’t the only areas that we fish but it should give you a good idea of what the marine forecast is for the day that you might want to come out.
