About Your Captain
So you’re thinking about booking a trip aboard St. Pete. Well then, let me tell you a little bit about me, your captain.
I’m Captain Doug Klimavich. I’ve loved fishing ever since I can remember. Most of my fondest childhood memories involve fishing with my dad. I grew up as a second-generation kid in a very small Massachusetts town called North Brookfield. Fishing with my dad was my favorite thing to do, and always an adventure. He had these great, out-of-the-way fishing holes buried deep in the woods or off of these old dirt cart paths. We would pull off onto some dirt road, stop, and hike deep into the woods.
After a while, we would arrive at what looked like just a sinkhole in the middle of nowhere. We would pull some of the biggest Small and Largemouth Bass that you could ever imagine out of those lost fishing oases. The Pickerel were scary monsters. We found delicious Brook Trout from the lost streams and tributaries.
My dad loved to fish. He had some of the best fishing stories ever. He passed on to me what I think was the best gift imaginable, a true love for nature and fishing. Being out on the water lets me enjoy both. I get to see some of the most beautiful scenery in God’s creation and feel the exuberance and thrill that only a fish on the end of your line can provide.
My Transition to SaltWater
Later in life, long after my dad had passed, I was fortunate enough to be able to come to Cape Cod with my own family. We purchased our first home here in 1998. That’s when I made my transition from freshwater to saltwater. Ever since then, I’ve been learning how to fish the waters off of Cape Cod with my three sons. The time that we’ve spent on the water together has been terrific.
When I retired, I decided that it was time to get my Captain’s license. For years, people on the dock would ask me if I could charter a trip for them but I couldn’t because I didn’t have my license. I wanted to be able to share my love of the water, my love of nature, and my passion for fishing with others. Getting my Captain’s license lets me do that. I can still remember being a boy and watching from the jetty as others went out on the water in charter boats thinking to myself, how cool would that be? Now I get to bring that experience to others and share in their excitement.
Being a charter boat Captain gives me the ability to teach others my craft. To be able to explain what’s going on around us and under the boat. You can’t beat seeing the look on someone’s face when they land that first Striped Bass. The feeling is awesome.
I’m hoping that you decide to come out with us. Let me share my passion for fishing with you and your family.
